EXPECTATIONS FOR SUCCESS
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM ME AS YOUR INSTRUCTOR
-
Clear and specific written deadlines for all assignments.
-
Marks will be provided within a reasonable period of time after the submission date.
-
I am happy to explain things until you understand. I can help only if you ask me.
MY EXPECTATIONS OF YOU AS A STUDENT
-
English only will be spoken during class time. No Arabic, and no translation to other student(s). If you do not understand, ask. I am happy to explain until you do understand.
-
Take responsibility for your own learning. Learn to trust yourself and the knowledge that you have. Your confidence will improve.
-
Attendance is mandatory. Regardless of what you are working on (i.e. an integrated Project), you must be at College during the scheduled class periods. If you are absent for any quizzes, assessments or any type of work where a grade is being assigned, you will receive a zero, unless you make prior arrangements.
-
At the class start time, I expect you to be sitting, ready to go, with whatever you need for that particular class.
-
Class participation is required, especially during discussions. Show your respect for other people by listening carefully.
-
Deadlines are deadlines. Late work is penalized 10% for every working day up to 5 days.
-
Be proud of your classroom and take ownership. It is a privilege (not a requirement) to have a classroom designated for your use with complete access to the computers and printers. Respect that privilege. No food or drinks are allowed in the classroom.
-
No use of mobile phones in the classroom. Make sure you have your phone on silent (no vibrate or beep) or turned off while you are in class.
-
Organize your work in your binders and your D: and H: drives, i.e. create a binder and a folder (on your H: or D: drive) for each course. Remember to back-up your work regularly! Create your won website using www.pbworks.com which will be used for your assessments.
-
Use a diary or a semester planner to help organize yourself, your time, and the courses you are taking.
-
Be professional at all times, especially with the quality of work you are submitting. The more you practice this, the less time it will take; it will become a (very good!) habit.
-
Use the Formatting Guidelines for all letters, memos and reports. Other specific formatting requirements for assignments will be provided by the instructor teaching the course.
-
Properly reference any work that you use. Remember that plagiarism is against the law. All work has a copyright.
-
Identify your work for all assignments.
